What is our commitment to you?

At BrainWise Neurofeedback and Wellness Center we strive to give you our utmost understanding, attention, respect, and support. We realize that therapy can be intensely vulnerable and that the therapeutic process requires a tremendous amount of trust. As such, we are committed to working with you in a way that feels safe, healthy, and growth-promoting.

We are always open to any questions you might have and request that you let us know what is and is not working for you. We believe that when conflicts and misunderstandings are worked through together, deeper understanding and healing will result.

How long are the sessions?

A traditional therapy hour is scheduled to last 50 minutes. Talk therapy (couples, individual, family), play therapy, and neurofeedback are designed to fit within this time frame. While the actual neurofeedback process will only last between 35-45 minutes, the entire 50 minutes will be provided to clients in order to assess efficacy and discuss symptomology, as is needed.

In addition to single services, neurofeedback can be combined with our other services to form an 80-minute therapy session at a reduced “package” rate (see fees below). This will include a full neurofeedback and therapy session.

Group sessions are scheduled to last 90 minutes.

What are the fees?

Unless otherwise arranged, all fees are payable at the end of the therapeutic hour. For your convenience cash, checks, and credit cards are accepted. We are not currently taking insurance, but would be happy to provide you with the appropriate forms to file on your own behalf, should you so choose.

At BrainWise, our primary goal is to offer therapeutic services at a reasonable price. We offer sliding scale fees ranging from $70.00 to $110.00 per hour, as well as additional package rates for Neurofeedback and QEEG services. In order to best serve your needs, we also offer a 50 minute free initial consultation, during which we can discuss your specific needs and circumstances in order to determine how we can be of best service to you.

Should an emergency arise that prevents your doing so, we ask that you call us as soon as possible to let us know. If we are able to reschedule your appointment for some point later in the week, you will not be charged an additional fee.

If, however, we are unable to fit you in or you do not give us advanced notification, you will be charged a fee of $50.00 for the missed appointment.

Why doesn't BrainWise accept insurance?

At BrainWise Neurofeedback & Wellness Center we strive to provide the most effective and comprehensive client care possible. We have found that the session limits, confidentiality issues, and pathology “labels” associated with taking insurance, can pose more of a hindrance to good client care than it does a benefit.

While session frequency and the number of sessions should be a collaborative decision between the client and the therapist, insurance companies frequently impose a session limit or require a specific treatment. This can undercut the effectiveness of the overall therapy process as well as remove the freedom of choice and control a client has over his or her mental health care.

In addition, insurance companies require a diagnosis code and, many times, a treatment plan for each client. This can result in what feels like an invasion of privacy as well as a feeling of being “labeled” or pathologized. Because our goal at BrainWise is to work in a holistic and non-stigmatizing manner, the requirements of insurance can pose a conflict of interest.

Finally, we view mental health treatment as not only an intervention but also a form of prevention. Even though paying out of pocket may feel overwhelming, when viewed as an investment in one’s future, it can become a priority. Research indicates that those who invest time and money in mental health tend to have reduced healthcare costs as well as increased productivity and earning potential in other areas of their lives.
